Educating the Next Generation About Red Tractor Pork
Ladies In Pigs are expanding how they share their message about Red Tractor Pork with the public. Their latest focus is on educating younger generations about food, farming, and the value of British pork. Leading this exciting new phase is Claire Davies, who is raising sponsorship to help fund this important educational work.
Claire’s Role and Vision
Claire has been part of Ladies In Pigs for over ten years, working alongside her teaching career in education. When the chance arose to develop the sponsorship and education projects, she was eager to take it on.
“I strongly believe that by educating younger generations about nutrition, farming, and the many opportunities within our diverse and essential industry, we can grow into a healthier and happier society,” Claire says.
The Ladies In Pigs team is now creating education packages for all key stages—from primary school through to Further Education. Pork has been recognised in the curriculum as a key source of protein. By supporting teachers to educate pupils on the health benefits of pork, how it fits into a balanced diet, and its versatility in cooking, they also help promote awareness of Red Tractor Pork.
Inspiring Students Through Hands-On Learning
Claire has long been involved in the pig industry through her husband, Simon, who is Commercial Director at Meadow Quality. With over 30 years of industry experience, they both share a deep connection to farming and food education.
Using her 15 years of teaching experience, Claire aims to reconnect young people with where their food comes from. She recognises that cooking skills and the desire to learn have declined in recent years. Through exciting, hands-on activities, she hopes to spark interest and curiosity that encourages healthier eating habits for the future.
Planned activities include:
-
Games that teach students how to recognise Red Tractor products and understand British food labelling.
-
A large wooden jigsaw pig, with pieces showing different cuts of meat, helping pupils learn which parts are used for joints, ham, and bacon.
-
For older students, sessions on basic butchery skills, recipe adaptations, and STEM-based projects linking food with science and technology.
Supporting the Mission
This ambitious educational initiative requires funding to continue its valuable work. Claire, on behalf of Ladies In Pigs, is calling on everyone in the pig industry to offer their support through sponsorship.
