The fit:
If you are already finishing cattle indoors on a known ration, AFU status mostly widens the pool of cattle you can buy rather than changing how you farm. That is the cleanest version of the case.
What changes:
Buying decisions change more than feeding ones. You gain access to restricted-herd cattle at times when the open market is short, which can steady both supply and price.
What to watch:
Everything you take in has to be finished. Throughput planning matters, and so does having the shed space to hold cattle that are not ready.
Next step?
Speak to your fieldsman about current availability of restricted cattle in your area before you apply.
